Warren sees room for compromise on deficit

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Newly elected Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she’ll go to Washington believing there is a “lot of room for compromise” on the most pressing issue facing Congress: What to do about the deficit and the impending fiscal crisis.

Warren, a Democrat and leading consumer advocate, tells NBC’s “Today” that Congress can find a middle ground to bring down the deficit by cutting spending while raising revenues.

In a separate interview on “CBS This Morning,” Warren said those who voted for her opponent, Republican Sen. Scott Brown, sent a message that people want lawmakers to work together. She says: “I heard that loud and clear.”

Warren defeated Brown, who scored a dramatic victory in strongly Democratic Massachusetts in 2010 by capturing the seat held by the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
