The 19th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service is less than three weeks away. We hope you will join us on Monday, January 20 in what we expect will again be the largest King Day event in the nation. It is not too late to register your King Day of Service project or event. Please visit or call 215-851-1811 to register your project(s).

King Day of Service volunteer opportunities throughout our region are available and can be viewed on our website– The website allows you to create an individual or group volunteer account, view all available projects and then select a service opportunity. Also, share Dr. King’s legacy with young people by having them participate in our One King Day, One King Book initiative.

There are reading selections appropriate for students of all ages. Students may read one of the selections and submit an essay, drawing or comic. Select entries will receive prizes. All entries must be received or postmarked by January 31. For more information go to

As part of our signature project at Girard College, we will be hosting the Cecil B. Moore Philadelphia Freedom Fighters for a Civil Rights Movement presentation and Philadelphia Futures for a series of college readiness workshops for Philadelphia students and parents. We are also proud to announce that the Philadelphia Orchestra will be performing at our signature project at Girard College.

Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Philadelphia, located on Independence Mall, is offering all King Day of Service volunteers seeking overnight accommodations promotional room rates starting at $99 per night.  Rate Code: MLK valid Jan. 19 and Jan. 20, 10% off surrounding dates.
