On August 3-4, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Penn’s Landing, the Benjamin and Edith Spaulding Descendants Association will host the BESDA 2012 Entrepreneur Expo. The purpose of this Expo is to give back to the Philadelphia and tri-state community by providing to all those who wish it, the training and tools to become successful in one’s professional life, in one’s family life, in one’s spiritual life, and in one’s service to others.
(BESDA) is one of the largest African American Family Organizations whose roots date back to Benjamin and Edith Spaulding Free People of Color who lived in North Carolina during pre-Revolutionary War America. For over 200 years Spaulding Descendants have championed the traditions of excellence in education, entrepreneurship, and strong faith held by their common ancestors, Benjamin and Edith Spaulding.
Today, those values inspire more than 5,000 descendants spread across America, resulting in a strong record of family achievement. We have both nonprofit and for-profit entities, an Entrepreneurial Education program and (since the 2004) awarded 21 educational scholarships to date. We encourage personal and professional development, and are active in community service.
“Our Motto is Each One Reach One and for over 200 years Spaulding Descendants have lived by that creed to change the landscape of America” said Neil Campbell, Expo Chairman and BESDA regional Director. “We have played a prominent role as Entrepreneurs, Business leaders, Educators, Political and Religious Leaders, Literary and Performing Arts. The list of accomplished individuals is astounding. The roster of Spaulding Descendant Expo participants with roots in Philadelphia include:
