COLLINGDALE– More than 150 senior residents from Philadelphia and Delaware counties attended state Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams’ “Navigating Life After 55+ Expo” Sept. 17.
Many, like Martha Yates of Yeadon, said the event was, “Wonderful!”
“Very interesting, very educational and everything just goes well,” Yates added. “Anthony Williams, you did a wonderful, wonderful thing to help seniors.”
Esther Booker, a Lansdowne resident who attends the Friendship Circle Senior Center, agreed with Yates.
“Each time it gets better and better,” Booker said. “A lot of information, a lot of different programs, a lot of dancing, a lot of good food. Williams, you are the greatest.”
Sen. Williams’ “Navigating Life After 55+ Expo” is designed to help residents 55 years old and older get answers to questions and problems they have. It was held in Collingdale Borough Hall.
Exercise classes, free health screenings and flu shots and workshops were presented. Some of the workshops helped people better understand cancer and its symptoms, while others offered tips to help seniors weatherize their homes and save money.
A free lunch, raffles, and free resource information tables helped to enhance the knowledge and restore the spirit of attendees.
“We do this because we care and because we want our senior neighbors and friends to know they are not alone in any aspect of life,” Sen. Williams said of the expo. “There are answers and solutions to many questions and problems, and I’m pleased that so many people expressed their satisfaction with the event.
“Everyone went home happy and better informed.”
Juanita Champagne, of Yeadon, visited Sen. Williams’ expo for the first time and said she enjoyed the lectures, the free lunch and being together with friends.
“I had a great time,” Champagne said. “There were a lot of gifts, a lot of friends and a lot of food.”
Many businesses helped to make Sen. Williams’ “Navigating Life After 55+ Expo” the success it was, including Always Best Care Senior Services, AQUA, Collingdale Borough, Black Women In Sports Foundation, Delaware County Technical School, Southwest Nu-Stop Inc., Independence Blue Cross, Keystone VIP Choice, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Pep Boys, ShopRite of Drexeline, Fresh Grocer, Wawa, and WDAS 105.3FM.
