Ronald J. Harper, Esq. has served as the dedicated President of the Citywide Trustees of Philadelphia and Zion Baptist Church Trustee Chair for over 30 years. The prominent attorney’s accomplishments include serving as past president of the Barristers Association of Philadelphia and as a past member of the Board of Pardons for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He currently serves as president of the Philadelphia Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Race for the Cure. Harper is also the board secretary of OIC of America.

When Harper announced that one of Philadelphia’s most prominent, history-making citizens — the Rev. Dr. W. Wilson Goode, Sr. — would bring his extensive knowledge and experience to Citywide Trustees of Philadelphia, he knew Goode would be of major benefit.   Goode, an ordained minister and founder of AMACHI, began leading the series of special forums that addressed a variety of relevant topics related to church sustainability in September 2017 at Canaan Baptist Church. The forum series attracted 181 trustees from 40 churches  Some 90 participants will receive certificates for completing the course on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Vine Memorial Baptist Church, 5600 W. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia at 6:30pm.

“The Citywide Trustees of Philadelphia is an association of trustees from Christian churches, who come together on a monthly basis to create an environment of mutual support and shared ministry with the primary emphasis being preparation for leadership, church management, sharing of policies and procedures, planning, and church structure as it relates to their tax exemption, community development and services,”  Citywide Trustee president Harper said. “The group achieves its purpose through an open forum, speakers and the collection of resources.”

In his role as curriculum leader, Goode began the program with a detailed overview about the responsibilities of the church administration.  The theme was, “So you want to be a trustee. Now what?” These presentations led to earnedcredits based on attendance throughout the program, in accordance with the Standards of the Philadelphia Area Trustees and Stewards Registry.

Goode’s agenda also provided a range of relevant of topics for the remaining meetings. There was a healthy dialogue with a range of topics that met the needs and expectations of participants.  Henoted that the level of participation was consistently high.

“I looked forward to a prophetic season, a season of gaining wisdom and understanding,” Harper said. “I expected a season of revisiting the educational tools of our stewardship as trustees, but understanding how we free up the ministry to save souls. Rev. Dr. Goode provided a tremendous opportunity to link training of trustees with ministerial perspectives of church governance towards improving the church environment for a greater witnessing of God’s promise to prosper us and not do us harm.”
