Philadelphia’s premier organization, The Gospel Music Preservation Alliance (GMPA) is dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of gospel music. GMPA will sponsor their Black History and Honors Service on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 5:00 PM at the Monumental Baptist Church, located at 4948 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19143. This year’s musical guest is the anointed Stellar Award winner, Pastor Beverly Crawford. Pastor Crawford has also received Dove and Grammy nominations for her musical work. Pastor Crawford is a much sought after psalmist and speaker. Pastor Crawford can also ad actress to her to her long list of accomplishments. She has appeared in Bishop T.D. Jakes play, “Woman Thou Art Loosed” and numerous other productions.
The honorees for this year are John Winslow, notable photographer that has dedicated his efforts to documenting events centered on gospel music and Bernard Pinder, an original member of one Philadelphia’s legendary male gospel groups, The Edwin Newberry Singers. Some of the previous honorees include Philadelphia’s own Marion Williams, Carol Antrom, Professor Irvin Brockington and The Brockington Ensemble, Rev. Johnny Thompson and more.
