Sharon Hill, PA –Pastor Richard A. Dent of the First African Baptist Church located at 901 Clifton Avenue in Sharon Hill, PA will be honored and lauded by his congregation on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the 10:00 am worship service for 25 years of committed service to God and his Kingdom. The guest minister will be Rev. Dr. Wallace Charles Smith-Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Washington, D.C. and Former President of Palmer Seminary. The theme for the day will be ¬”A Faithful and Distinguished Pastor with an Excellent Spirit”. The event is to give recognition to Pastor Dent for outstanding service to the community as a Pastor and leader.
Rev. Dent arrived at First African in November of 1985, and since then has earned the respect of the community as a dedicated leader. He works closely with various religious and business leaders in Delaware County and Philadelphia. Rev. Dent is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Community Development Corporation, which brings needed services to the Darby Township Community and Philadelphia. He supports the Delaware County Juvenile Court’s rehabilitation program. He is active with the South East Delco Foundation for Education, and the Delaware County Family Center’s Advisory Board. Deeply concerned about health issues affecting African Americans, he works closely with the Heart Association and the American Red Cross to bring health related seminars, conferences and fairs to the community.
As a recipient of the prestigious Benjamin E. Mays Fellowship for Ministerial Study, Pastor Dent completed his studies toward a Master of Divinity Degree at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in December of 1984. In 1998 Rev. Dent completed studies for the Doctor of Ministry in The Renewal of Church for Mission Program at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors at Palmer Seminary and Eastern University. He also holds membership in several professional and fraternal organizations, including Kappa Delta Psi Honor Society, the National, State and local Associations for Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Rev. Dent is married to Beatrice Collins Dent and they are the proud parents of a son, Richard A. Dent III, and a daughter, Jennifer J. Dent and they have been blessed with a daughter-in-law, Karena Dent and grandsons, Jalen and Kamron.
The 25th Pastoral Anniversary Celebration Gala for Rev. Dr. Richard A. Dent and First Lady Beatrice Dent will be held on Sunday, November 21st, 2010 at 3:00PM at the Drexelbrook located at 4700 Drexelbrook Drive, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.
