Maybe at some point you have heard of an affirmation or affirmations.

Affirmations are statements, a proclamation, a declaration, an emotional support or encouragement. An affirmation is a positive statement you say or think about yourself. Saying daily affirmations helps reprogram our negative self-talk so we can manifest more positive thinking, feeling and experiences in our lives. Affirmations are words said to encourage, build, and bring joy to you. Today they are popularly applied by speaking to yourself and into your own life daily. At this point we may ask ourselves is this really important for me to incorporate into my daily routine?

Proverbs 18:21 states, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Our mouths using this small yet very power tongue can speak life, or death, into our lives. This doesn’t have to be a physical death but an emotional or spiritual one. If you can image a small child and hearing a mother gush over something her child has made. Maybe think of your mother or someone you love just going on and on about something you did. Anyone would beam with so much pride hearing them just constantly speaking life to you. Hearing words of encouragement and praise can empower a small child and an adult to keep going. That’s the power of encouraging words. They build!

There used to be an old saying, “Stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.” well those of us who have experienced name calling or harsh words know that to be untrue. Words spoken to us stick with us long after they have been said. Some people spend all their lives trying to shake off negative words. Positive affirmations are way to reconstruct our thinking of ourselves. Sometimes we have come to believe certain things about ourselves known and unknown to us. Old words, family beliefs, and new yokes we place on ourselves can be holding us back. Our thoughts (these inner affirmations) can take roots and cause us think we are unworthy of great things in life, don’t deserve love, won’t get that promotion, move into that new house or whatever you may desire in your life. We don’t realize how much the soundtrack of our minds playback negative words. We tune in and turn the sound up often and believe it.

But today is the day of change. Today I challenge us all to create our own list of affirmations. Let’s begin to incorporate our personalized affirmations and speak them into our lives every day! This can be such a great family project as well. Children are never too young to speak positively about themselves every day. Philippians 4:8-9 says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Let’s start thinking on great things, speaking on great things and in no time at all great things will manifest in our lives.

Here are a few examples of affirmations that can start the creative juices flowing about what to write for yourself that you can say every day out loud to yourself:

-The past has no power over me anymore

– I embrace the rhythm and the flowing of my own heart.

– All that I need comes to me at the right time and place in this life.

– I am deeply fulfilled with who I am.

– I am more than good enough and I get better every day.

– I give up the habit to criticize myself.

– I adopt the mindset to praise myself.

– I see the perfection in all my flaws and all my genius.

– I fully approve of who I am, even as I get better.

– I am a good person at all times of day and night.

-I am doing work that I enjoy and find fulfilling.

-I play a big role in my own career success.

-I ask for and do meaningful, wonderful and rewarding work.

-I engage in work that impacts this world positively.

-I believe in my ability to change the world with the work that I do.

These are just a few. I have no doubt that you have some very personal affirmations that will mean so much to you. Make your list and start speaking into your life today!
