On June 1st, Councilwoman at Large, Blondell Reynolds-Brown hosted her sixth annual Old School Dance Party, at the African American Art Museum. Social media updates throughout the night from attendees informed the world that there “ain’t no party like a Blondell Reynolds-Brown Old School Dance Party.

Although the night’s focus was mostly fun, Reynolds-Brown did take a few moments to speak, and even recognizing a group of high school volunteers.

Reynolds-Brown, who is already being discussed as a possible candidate for mayor , , has become a leader in City Council and the only woman in leadership. “If women are not at the table, issues that resonate with them are not being acted on,” Brown said “That’s when I decided, I thought I could do this.”

Blondell continues to focus on issues that affect women and children, like women’s rights, healthcare and education. Reynolds-Brown also won first place among 14 candidates in last year’s Democratic primary, a major improvement for her from 2007.
