A New Seed

I, not unlike many, have had my fair share of disappointments.  I am a goal oriented individual and I like to reap the investment of my hard work and tenacity. However, when those aspirations do not materialize I struggle with understanding the “why” behind it all.  I search my situation for errors that I made.  I try to retrace my steps to see if there is still time to correct them to regain my footing and capture what is illusive.  After I’ve done all that I can do and I still come up empty handed, my face is in the dirt and tears stream down, I’ve called my family, friends, prayer lines,  I only have one place I can go…to the Lord for answers.

Genesis 4:25 says, “And Adam knew his wife again; and she there a son, and called his name Seth. For, said she, God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain slew him.” (American Standard Version)  The story of Cain and Abel is the story of the first murder in the Bible.  As readers of the Word, we often find it easy to focus on the murder and not the other story.  Adam and Eve must have felt great loss as parents.  Not only did Cain take a life but also he took the life of his brother.  As we all know you cannot replace the lost of a loved one.  Yet, in a time of sadness and loss, God has another plan.  When we do not get that promotion on the job…there is another plan.  When do not hear great news from the doctor…there is another plan.  When we find that someone close has hurt us…there is another plan.

God in His infinite love gave them another seed in Seth.  The meaning of Seth from the Hebrew Sheth, signifying “appointed” He appointed a new birth in the life of Adam and Eve.  There is a new birth appointed in your due season.

There is another seed, another appointment, a new birth in store for each loss we encounter. “In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.” Isaiah 17:11   Even in the midst of your most trying time the Lord is saying your seed will flourish.  In the morning, there will be a plant that has taken root in your life.  I know the day after something disappointing happens you may not realize that God is already moving on your behalf.  Remember that He is the author and finisher of your faith.  God looked down the tunnels of time and knew that you were going to encounter a difficult time.  He knew that you were going to miss the mark in your walk with Him.  He knew that you were going to receive a negative report.  God has made provision for you.  He has walked out your steps and the end of the trials and tribulations there will be a new increase.

I have often said that nothing is ever lost with God. Joel 2:25 says “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.”  God is a restorer!  Yes, things were taken away from you.  Yes, people have hurt you.  Yet He has not forgotten the time in which those things were destroyed.  You only think that opportunity will not come again, and you are correct, that opportunity will not come again.  There is a new appointed seed.  A new opportunity on the horizon for you and I. Look to the hills from which comes your help.  God is doing a new thing today, even if it does not look or feel like it.  Some days you just need to confess a good report.  Philippians 4:8 tells how we ought to align our mind with the mind of God, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”  Therefore, as man a thinks so is he.

Loss is apart of life.  I do not say this easily.  I wish it were not the case.  However, during the times of loss God has not left you without hope.  He has left us His Word so that we may lift our heads with expectation.  Let us carry in our heart the fact that there is a new appointed seed.  Let us seek out with prayer and fasting the ground in which to plant (Matthew 13:3-9).

As Believer, say this prayer with me: “Lord, I have experienced disappointment and sorrow.  You know all about it God.  Lord, help me to understand that You do have a new seed for me.  Help me to till this new seed with your Word everyday so that I may know Your will for my life.  I look forward to this “new birth” in my life.  Thank God for being the Author and Finisher of my faith, in Jesus name Amen.”

If you do not know this God of restoration maybe today is the day. Today you can know the God of a new birth, a new seed, a new beginning say this prayer with me today: “Heavenly Father,  I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He became a man to suffer and die on the cross and that His shed blood is for the cleansing of my sins. Jesus, I pray that You and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, will come and live in me. I give my life to You to Your will and not my will. Please give me the faith to believe all the promises that You have written to me in Your Word, the Holy Bible. Please give me the strength and the faith to accomplish the plans and the destinies that You have for me and give me the courage to be a witness for You. Please fill me with Your love and compassion for people so I can be like You, I pray all these things in Your Holy Name, Amen.”
