Recent studies have shown that Philadelphia has one of the highest STD rates in the nation. 25 percent of all new HIV infections in the city are among youth age 13 to 24. A new documentary, “GenerationNext: Uncovered”, produced by iChoose2Live in partnership with Take Control Philly, examines young people’s perspective on this epidemic and more.

The documentary features local celebrities and leaders, including DJ Damage of Hot 107.9 Philadelphia. In the 19 minute film, more than dozen young adults candidly discuss their attitudes toward sex including wearing condoms, pop culture, sexting, high STD and HIV rates and related topics.

“The issue in Philadelphia is about more than just condoms, this project is necessary so we get the opportunity to hear real opinions from young Philadelphians”, said STD Program Manager Melinda Salmon. GenerationNext: Uncovered will premier for World AIDS Day on December 1, 2012 online.

The goal of the film was to understand the opinions and ideas of these young people. Now that we have that, Take Control Philly, and iChoose2Live along with other organizations will work to develop new ways to address the HIV and STD epidemic in the city. “The overall goal is to change the mindset”, says iChoose2Live founder, Shenille Latrice.
