The Office of the Sheriff of Philadelphia and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) honored 56 Sheriff Deputies and two employees from Human Resources who have been with the Sheriff’s Office for 25 years or more.
The event was held at FOP headquarters at Broad and Spring Garden Streets. FOP, Lodge 5, vice president Roosevelt Poplar thanked the men and women for their long years of public service. “You have shown your dedication and professionalism on the job and I thank you.”
“Our deputies often find themselves in the line of fire and helping to keep law and order in the five court buildings to protect judges, juries, witnesses, defendants and the public on a daily bases,” said Sheriff Jewell Williams.
“Our fugitive warrant task force is assigned to locate and apprehend fugitives on the run. When I took over the office in January of this year we had more than 2,900 outstanding fugitive warrants for men and women who do not want to be found,” said Sheriff Williams. “I hope soon to be able, when our budget is approved, to add more deputies to do this dangerous job.”
