During Thursday December 5, 2019 at 10 a.m., the Philadelphia City Council session body is expected to vote on a resolution honoring J. Whyatt Mondesire, founder and publisher of the Philadelphia Sunday Sun.
The resolution, introduced by Eighth District Councilwoman Cindy Bass, and Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, would name the 6600 Block of Germantown Avenue, the block that was the longtime home of the Philadelphia Sunday SUN, for Mondesire, a longtime journalist and community activist who was the former president of the Pennsylvania State and Philadelphia chapters of the NAACP, a founder of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, host of the radio program “Vision Quest” on WDAS-FM and a regular panelist on 6ABC’s “Inside Story” .
While there will be no change to the postal designation if the resolution is approved, there will be a sign connoting the honor.
