Who: Members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, Community Leaders, Union Leaders, Business Leaders, Clergy, Activist and concerned citizens along with guest speakers including Dr. Cornel West, Harvard University Professor, Best Selling Author, and Civil Rights Activist, Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, and Founder of the Trayvon Martin Foundation, PA Congressman Dwight Evans, Mayor Ras Baraka, of Newark NJ, Mayor Chokwe Lumumba of Jackson, MS, and performances by youth R&B Band WanMor, Carol Riddick, and R&B Recording Artist Kelly Price.
What: The purpose of the North Star Convention is to discuss systemic issues impacting the Black community throughout the state of Pennsylvania, and create a collective agenda of solutions to present to Presidential nominees which we will ask each candidate to adopt and implement if elected into office. Over the course of two days, citizens from across PA will be virtually gathering to use their collective voice and power to adopt a Black agenda outlining solutions to issues like gun violence, criminal justice reform, equity in education, economic justice, gender equality, access to healthcare, and improvements to the environment. There will also be discussions on the importance and power of voting, encouraging everyone to exercise their right to vote on November 3rd.

The Convention began on September 8th and runs through October 10th. During the 5 week period, over 50 speakers who are experts, practitioners, activists, academia and elected officials participated in 6 forums organized to address issues plaguing the black community and create solutions – all leading up to the 2-day Conference on October 9th and 10th where those recommendations will be adopted into a Black agenda for Pennsylvania.
