The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia celebrated the grand opening of the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Primary Care Center,  48th and Market Streets in West Philadelphia, on Feb. 6 with a ribbon cutting and plaque dedication.  Established with a $7.5 million gift from Nicholas and Athena Karabots, the new state-of-the-art Center gives the West Philadelphia community convenient access to cutting-edge pediatric health care and community programs that will enhance the health and well-being of children and families living in the neighborhood and throughout the City of Philadelphia.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Karabots Primary Care Center is a $27 million, 52,000-square-foot facility dedicated to providing high quality pediatric care and community programs to children and families in the surrounding West Philadelphia community, representing a continuing commitment by The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to providing medical care to families in their local neighborhoods, as part of the extensive CHOP Care Network.

Located on a four-acre site, the two-story, building contains 56 child-friendly examination rooms, plus rooms dedicated to radiology, hearing and vision testing, and a phlebotomy laboratory. The facility also houses community programs offered by Children’s Hospital, such as Early Head Start, Reach Out and Read, Community Asthma Prevention Program, domestic violence education, medical home and care coordination, and the Homeless Health Initiative. The Center plans to accommodate over 64,000 outpatient visits annually.

The existing Children’s Hospital Pediatric & Adolescent Care Centers in South Philadelphia and Cobbs Creek will remain in their current locations. The centers at 39th and Chestnut Streets and 3550 Market Street will relocate to the Karabots Center.
