Michael Vick to celebrate Berean Founders Day

Join Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles in celebrating historic Berean Institute’s Founder’s Day Thursday, April ll at the school located at 19th& Girard Avenue. The event will begin with a VIP reception featuring Vick at 5:30PM. A general reception will follow at 6:OOPM. The festivities will include music, refreshments and the presentation of awards. This year Berean will honor its “heroes.”

 

“The planning committee felt it was important to recognize those who supported us during our transition,” explained Berean President Dr. Lorraine Poole-Naranjo. “In recognition of their service to Berean Institute, these individuals have generously devoted time, talent, energy and hope to the mission of Rev. Matthew Anderson and Caroline Still Anderson, Berean’s founders.

 

We want them to know how much we appreciate their contributions.The honorable Frank L. Oliver has been the champion of Berean Institute for more than three decades. He recognized the need for the educational and training opportunities provided by the Berean experience. He will always be our guardian angel!”

 

Others being honored include John Cureton, Luis Colon, Scarlett Naranjo, Edward Smith, Vema Banks,Stanley Woods, Shirley Randleman, Ella Jarrett, Melvie Hall-Bellinger, Maurice Kennedy, Janice Johnson, Marilyn Kai Jewett, Charma Curry and Poole-Naranjo.

 

“We have been working diligently on Berean’s transformation for the past few years,” said Naranjo. “The barbering program has attracted a growing multi-cultural student body. We have a new director of cosmetology and have introduced natural hair care to the curriculum. We also will secure our academic license in2013. Things are moving forward at Berean!”

 

“We are determined to continue Berean’s rich history of providing vocational training and academic preparation. As we work towards the future, we look forward to serving the needs of the community for another 113 years.”
