The Father’s Day Rally Committee, Inc. (FDRC) will host its 25th Anniversary Celebration with a full week of activities starting Monday, June 9 thru Sunday, June 15, 2014. FDRC is proud to announce that Dr. William “Bill” Cosby will serve as the 25th Anniversary Honorary Chair of this year celebration.
“FDRC has been a leader in the Philadelphia region and the nation promoting responsible fatherhood programs and projects. “The FDRC picnic is the nation’s oldest running fatherhood program in the country”, said Bilal Qayyum, President of FDRC.
This year’s celebration will once again honor local fathers at its 17th Annual Award Reception to be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 6 PM to 9 PM at the First District Plaza, 3801 Market Street.
FDRC in collaboration the Latino committee “Back2Basic” has organized our 5th Annual Jackie Robinson/Roberto Clement Unity Softball game to be played at the 25th Father’s Day Picnic on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Belmont Grove picnic area in Fairmount Park Field #7.
This year’s celebration will also include the FDRC and B2B first annual All-Star Softball game between men from African American and Latino Softball leagues at Belmont Plateau. The All-Star game is being organized by Joe Santiago and Jonathan Reid which feature the best players from both leagues in Philadelphia.
The Back2Basic movement is a call for Latino men to step up and be men in their communities. For over ten years the movement has hosted street cleanings, mentorship programs at schools, and established a Citywide Handball tournament with world champion Handball Player Wally Amaro.
“This year’s celebration will bring Latino and African American men together once again to honor fatherhood in Philadelphia,” said Victor Negron, Back2Basic organizer.
