A funny thing happened on Mayor Michael Nutter’s way to his Budget Address… a bunch of City Workers showed up.
Mayor Michael Nutter was supposed to deliver his budget address in City Council on Thursday.
But a group of city workers, angry because they’ve been working without a contract for the entirety of Nutter’s term and with the news that the Mayor intends to go to court to try and have contract terms imposed on them, had other ideas.
The unionized workers shouted Nutter down as he attempted to give his yearly address to City Council. Despite calls for order by Council President Darrell Clarke, chants of “No Contract, No Peace” rattled throughout the hall. Nutter attempted to give the speech, but once Clarke realized that he had lost control of the session, he called a recess.
Nutter finished his speech in his second floor reception room, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
