WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the Federal Railroad Administration has released $1.35 million to PennDOT for improvements to Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor.

“This project will create jobs and provide residents and businesses from Philadelphia to Harrisburg with a more reliable transportation network,” said Senator Casey.

Senator Casey has supported improvements to the Keystone Corridor in a letter and conversations with the U.S. Department of Transportation because the project is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and increase the economic competitiveness of communities along the corridor.

The funding will be used for preliminary engineering and required environmental approvals to enable installation of a modernized signal and train control system along portions of the corridor. The improved signal system will allow trains to operate in both directions on all tracks more efficiently, eliminating the need for outdated, manned interlocking towers along the line.
