Black Clergy to host justice symposium Tuesday, Oct. 21 in West Oak Lane

The Black Clergy of Philadelphia & Vicinity will host a Justice Symposium at the Mount Airy Church of God In Christ, at 6401 Ogontz Avenue, (Ogontz and Stenton Ayenues), in West Oak Lane, Tuesday, Oct., 21, 9AM-5PM.

The Keynote Speaker for the Justice Symposium is Saint Louis, Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadel, who has been one of the leading voices as an elected official, in Ferguson, Missouri, over the summer, where teenager Michael Bell was shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer.

The purpose of the Symposium is to provide a forum with the goal of presenting information to “increase the awareness and provide practical ready-to-use solutions for various disparities that are negatively impacting the African American community in the area of Education, Economics and Criminal Justice/Prosecution.

The day will begin with a main plenary session featuring State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal. Following the plenary, there will be a presentation and panel discussion on each of the three focal areas. Dr. Larry Spruill, an Assistant Professor at Morehouse College, will be the presenter on Education. On the subject of Economics, Dr. Claud Anderson of Maryland (confirmation pending) has been invited to be the presenter. On the subject of Criminal Justice and Prosecution, former Philadelphia Mayor, John F. Street Esq. will be the presenter.

This Justice Symposium is free and open to the public. However, it is requested that attendees pre-register by logging on at www.phillyblackclergy.com/justice, email [email protected] or call 267-639-9875 Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please pre-register no later than Friday, October 17, 2014 by 5:00 PM. Religious leaders, pastors, clergy, lay leaders, elected and appointed officials and the community at large are welcome to attend and participate at the symposium.
