The Urban Media Literacy Organization and True Way Youth Empowerment Foundation have joined forces to host the Back-to-School Bootcamp for youth and families on Friday, August 30, 2019, between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m.
The event will be hosted by the Cobbs Creek Recreation Center, located at 280 Cobbs Creek Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19139.
The objective is to prepare students and parents to meet the new school semester more charged, fortified and determined to be successful.
The programming will include engaging activities or workshops to support mental and physical health, fun academic challenges, True Way’s signature Think Outside the Box workshop and critical thinking games.
Parents will engage in conversations about how to partner with teachers and schools to support their students, as well as gain information about available resources.
“We are collaborating with a range of organizations and community partners and youth advocates,”said E. Marie Lambert, the executive director of the True Way Youth Empowerment Foundation.
A full range of workshops and resources will be provided to address the following:
• Returning to school, entering middle or high school anxiety
• Bullying and Other Behavior Challenges/Restorative Practices
• Inclusion: Respect for students with learning differences
• Self-Regulation and following school policies
• Summer Reading: What did you read?
• Character: Moral and Ethical Choices/Peer Pressure
• Effective Study Habits/Time Management/ Goal Setting
• The benefits of eating healthy and resting well
