This six-week writing workshop will focus on the power of creativity. The instructor believes that deep writing does not come from the mind; it comes from the spirit or the soul. Our souls have memories that we are unaware of. The workshop will teach students how to cull those memories by utilizing a combination of meditation, breathing exercises and writing exercises.

The workshop’s goal is to get you started on working on the first draft of your story. National bestseller and award winning author Bernice Mc Fadden will provide guidance and professional critique to assist you in reaching your personal writing goals as this season’s instructor.

Bernice L. McFadden is the author of seven critically acclaimed novels including the classics Sugar and Glorious, which was featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, selected as the debut title for the One Book, One Harlem program, and was a finalist for the NAACP Image Award. She is a three-time Hurston/Wright Legacy Award finalist, as well as the recipient of the 2011 Fiction Award the BCALA. Her sophomore novel, TheWarmest December, was praised by Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison as “searing and expertly imagined.” McFadden lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her forthcoming novel: Gathering of Waters will be published in January 2012.

Sessions will be held Tuesdays beginning Oct. 4th and ending November 8, 2011.
