Mighty Writers is pleased to announce the hiring of Annette John-Hall as Director of West Philadelphia Programs.

John-Hall was an award-winning columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 2007 to 2013. In 2010, she was one of 20 African-American columnists invited to the White House for a group interview with President  Barack Obama.

A native of Berkeley, CA, and a graduate of San Francisco State University, John-Hall covered sports at the San Jose Mercury News, the Rocky Mountain News in Denver and the Oakland Tribune.

John-Hall  has been involved with Mighty Writers since the organization’s founding in 2009. She led a popular sportswriting teen workshop for four years and is currently leading a class as part of Mighty Writers’ digital journalism summer camp. John-Hall  has been a member of the Mighty Writers advisory board since 2010.

Founded in 2009, Mighty Writers delivers free writing programs for children and youth in Philadelphia. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to teach Philadelphia kids, ages seven to 17, to think and write with clarity so they can achieve success at school, at work and in life.

After operating writing programs in South Philadelphia for four years, the organization is expanding to open a West Philadelphia Mighty Writers at 3861 Lancaster Avenue in September 2013.
