Remembering former congressman, Rev. William H. Gray III
The William H. Gray III Memorial Foundation is a group of dedicated friends, family, and local and national community members who have worked closely with Amtrak to rename Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station in William H. Gray’s honor.
He was a strong protector of funds for infrastructure and public services and was instrumental in curtailing efforts to drastically eliminate funds for Amtrak and in securing funding for the restoration of 30th Street Station.
Throughout his public life, Gray broke barriers. He worked, worshipped, socialized and strategized — closely and with intention — with people of diverse backgrounds.
He remained rooted in his community while seeing the wider world as an extension of it, despite global travel and broad responsibilities.
It is more than fitting that his actions in saving the station — in addition to his tireless advocacy as a foot soldier for progress and justice — be memorialized by Amtrak through the renaming it as the Gray 30th Street Station.
