Brown Sugar, the new subscription video-on-demand service from Bounce, will be celebrating the May 26th birthday of Pam Grier, movie legend and Brown Sugar ambassador, with a section on the homepage featuring many of her classic roles, including “Coffy,” “Original Gangstas,” “Black Mama White Mama,” “Sheba Baby” and “Friday Foster.” Brown Sugar will also launch “Brown Sugar Mamas” this month, a collection of films celebrating moms in honor of Mother’s Day. The New York City Mission Society held its annual Champions for Children Gala on Tuesday, April 24, to support educational programs and supportive services that help youth and families in New York City’s underserved communities break the cycle of poverty and achieve success. This year’s gala co-chairs were Jean & Martin Shafiroff, Katrina & Don Peebles, and Leah & Stanley H. Rumbough. The gala, attended by more than 330 people, was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Columbus Circle overlooking Central Park. Legendary Cathy Hughes, founder and chairperson, Urban One, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her trailblazing accomplishments in media, and Mannie Jackson, Basketball Hall of Famer and former owner of the Harlem Globetrotters, received the Dina Merrill Hartley Public Service Award. “We are celebrating those who have been committed to empowering  others to achieve their dreams,” said Mission Society president Elsie McCabe Thompson.…….

The sold-out Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage presented by Denny’s embarked on its 19th cruise on April 29 from Galveston, Texas. Sailing until May 6th, the 2018 Voyage’s promise of nonstop entertainment includes An Evening with Anita Baker and performances from artists Tamar Braxton, The Isley Brothers, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, 112, SWV, EnVogue, and The O’Jays. Hosted by iconic radio personality Tom Joyner, this year’s event is taking place on the luxurious Carnival Breeze……….

With his directorial debut, alongside co-director, Juice Big Fellow, Keith gives fans a 12-minute “Never Be You” visual co-starring actor and comedian Tony Rock, which explores the decades old relationship question — is the grass greener on the other side? Inspired by the classic film “Coming To America,” Keith hilariously takes on Eddie Murphy’s unforgettable role as Prince Akem and Rock as Arsenio Hall’s character, Semmi in the new video feature……..
