Dr. Dre will release his first new album in more than 15 years on August 7 as what he calls his “Grand Finale.” The 50 year-old rap icon will debut “Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre,” almost 16 years since the release of gis sophomore album, November 1999’s “2001.” Dre told the listeners on his radio show that August 14th upcoming biopic, “Straight Outta Compton,” inspired him to begin work on the album. Said Dr. Dre: “I felt myself being so inspired by the movie that I started to record an album.”
NBA superstar Kobe Bryant is driving hard to the basket in China, inking a wide-ranging deal with Alibaba Group. Under the agreement, Alibaba Group will release the Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard’s documentary, “Kobe Bryant’s Muse” on August 8. exclusively through its Tmall Magic Box Internet set “Top Box.” In addition, Alibaba Pictures will work with Kobe’s company, Kobe Inc. to create a series of Kobe-branded products………
According to News Americas, Barbados-born songstress Rihanna proved she is Bajan to the bone on August 3 when for another year she flaunted her gorgeous body at the annual Kadooment Day parade as her rumored new squeeze, British Formula One racing phenom Lewis Hamilton was spotted near by. For this year’s carnival, Rihanna wore a barely there Zula costume that consisted of a bra made of sparkly sequined spirals with matching bikini panties, and a huge feathered green and black head-dress. She also sported angel wings. Hamilton was clad in a silver woven tank top and matching shorts along with a baseball cap worn backwards, sunglasses and colorful pixel printed sneakers………..
Russell Simmons has inked an overall first-look production and development deal with HBO, the premium cabler announced. Under the new pact with Simmons’ new media company All Def Digital, he and his team will create and develop television projects for the network. Currently, Russell has five projects in the works with HBO. Said Russell: “HBO has been like a home to me for a generation. I am enormously proud of the broad range of programming they have nurtured. Together, we have discovered new voices and helped launch emerging artists that deserved a mainstream platform.”
