A slim and trim Jennifer Hudson joined Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Mary J. Blige and Dr. Oz to celebrate the 10th anniversary of O, The Oprah Magazine at the Live Your Best Life Walk, on Sunday, May 9. Oprah called Jennifer up on ther stage to sing and said the new mom had “skinny-fied herself.” Jennifer is the newest spokesperson for Weight Watchers. ten thousand people, mostly women (Oprah commented that “there are a few men, and I don’t know how you got in here”), joined Oprah and Gayle for the Live Your Best Life weekend, which included a day of seminars by Dr. Oz, Suze Orman, Nate Berkus, Donna Brazille and Peter Walsh, Oprah’s One-Woman Show at Radio City Music Hall and the walk.
On May 7, Bobby Brown was in Jacksonville, Florida, performing with his ex-New Edition bandmates Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill, when he called his girlfriend Alicia Etheridge on stage, along with their 11-month-old son, Cassius. Bobby proceeded to get down on one knee and ask Alicia to marry him. He told her this time he would work harder on the marriage than he did on his first one to Whitney Houston.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Ne-Yo made Mother’s Day special for his own mom and dozens of others. The R&B crooner’s Compound Foundation hosted the third annual celebration of Mothers on May 9. The elegant brunch event, which featured live performances and a keynote message from Georgia State representative Alisha Morgan, was held at Opera Nightclub in Atlanta, and saluted the efforts of foster mothers throughout Georgia. Said Ne-Yo: “Our initial thing is about helping out kids in the child welfare program.” Ne-Yo was accompanied by his girlfriend Monyetta Shaw. Ne-Yo said the best piece of advice his mother ever gave him was simple: “Never go to bed mad.”
A salute to Oscar winner Denzel Washington, who reportedly has donated $1 million dollars to Steve Harvey’s foundation that mentors young boys from underprivileged neighborhoods. And, congratulations also go out to Denzel on his recent Tony nomination for Best Actor in the hit revival of “Fences,” currently on Broadway. Denzel’s star power is selling $300,000 worth of tickets per day.
Men In Black 3 is officially a go, and Columbia Pictures will set a May 25, 2012, release date for a sequel that director Barry Sonnenfeld will shoot in 3D. Will Smith has signed his deal. The project has been in the prep stage for some time, but didn’t become real until Will chose it over several “next film” candidates. It has long been expected Men In Black 3 would be next for Will, who last starred in 2008’s Seven Pounds amd then took the time to be a very hands on producer for The Karate Kid remake that stars his son, Jaden, with Taraji P. Henson playing Jaden’s character’s mother. “Karate Kid” will be released on June 11.
