Although Bobby Brown’s representative issued a statement saying the R&B singer was speaking on his cell phone and said he was not driving erratically, Brown has been formally charged with three misdemeanors in connection with his recent DUI bust in Los Angeles. Brown faces two DUI-related counts and another charge that he was driving on a suspended license. Brown was initially stopped because he was seen talking on a cell phone without a hands free unit. He faces up to six months in jail on the DUI counts if convicted.

The Saturday, April 7, 62nd Annual Women of Distinction Spirit Award luncheon taking place at Chelsea Piers in the Big Apple, will honor Constance White, Editor-In-Chief of Essence Magazine and AT&T’s Tanya Leah Lombard. The event raises money to support the Links’ various charitable platforms and one of the highlights is always the fashion show which will feature designs from B. Michael, Chicago’s Barbara Bates and Edward Wilkerson, Design Director for Lafayette 148 New York. To toast the successful day, the ladies will be among the first to sample ZED, the delicious new sparkling Moscato Rose’ from my friends at Pernod Ricard.
Legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin has signed with ICM in all areas. She was previously with WME. The Queen of Soul, who turned 70 last week, recently re-signed with Sony Music Entertainment and will record a new album with Clive Davis, who signed Franklin to his Arista Records in 1980. Aretha was in New York City following her birthday, where she took in the Broadway play “The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess” on March 28.
Actress Meagan Good is engaged to Sony Pictures Entertainment Executive DeVon Franklin, who also happens to be a Seventh Day Adventist Minister. The preacher proposed last month in Los Angeles. The couple began dating after production wrapped on Jumping The Broom, which Meagan starred in, and DeVon produced. Congratulations!
I just returned from the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage, which sailed to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Nassau, Bahamas and Coco Cay Beach aboard Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas. I have to say the trip was life changing. I can’t begin to describe the wonderful people, the fabulous entertainment that included Queen Latifah, Boyz II Men, Guy, H-Town, Taste of Honey, EU, Lenny Williams, Toni! Tone! Tony! or the Tonys as they call themselves. The list goes on and on. It was truly fantastic!
