While last week’s news that Halle Berry and her daughter Nahla’s father, Gabriel Aubry, had called it quits after five years, sources close to the ex-couple say they split some time ago, “but remain close friends and committed parents for their daughter.” In fact, Halle was out and about all over New York City as the news broke, looking like she didn’t have a care in the world. Halle attended the DKMS 4th Annual Gala: Limited Against Leukemia. Along with Coty CEO Bernard Beety, the gorgeous Oscar winner presented Island Def Jam Chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid with an award in honor of his tireless work in fighting cancer. Said Halle: “I’m thrilled with my partnership with Coty, a company that has such a great sense of social responsibility, in supporting DKMS in the fight against leukemia.” The following night, Halle showed up at Denzel Washington’s “Fences,” which has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards, with a fine Black man bearing an uncanny resemblance to the actor Leon, only younger. On Saturday, she cheered on thousands of walkers in Times Square and was even on “Today” for the EIF Revlon Run/Walk to benefit breast cancer research. She ended the weekend having a cheeseburger with a gal pal at Rue 57 on Avenue of the Americas.
Beyonce’ and Jay-Z stopped by celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh’s ninth annual Spring Fling Party held at New York’s Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel recently. They talked with Naomi Campbell who arrived with makeup artist Pat McGrath. Also at the party, Gisele Bundchen hit the dance floor with husband Tom Brady. They had just flown in from Louisville, Kentucky, where they attended the Kentucky Derby. The Svedka sponsored party was produced by nightlife impresario Nur Khan.
Songwriter/singer/producer extraordinaire Sean “The Pen” Garrett, the triple threat artist who created a new sound by penning songs for Usher like “Yeah,” Beyonce’s “Ring The Alarm” and Ciara’s “Goodies,” as well as many more hits for superstar artists, returns to his roots as a crooner with the upcoming album “Courtesy Of.” Sean recently completed shooting in Miami for his new music video, “Get It All,” featuring hot “it” girl Nicki Minaj, directed by Gil Green. “Get It All” is the first single off “Courtesy Of.” As on the tarck, Nicki Minaj is the leading lady in the video.
The National Mother’s Day Committee honored five outstanding women, including award-winning actress and activist Alfre Woodard, for their success in balancing accomplished careers and the demands of motherhood at the 32nd annual “Outstanding Mother Awards” benefit luncheon on May 6 at the Pierre New York Hotel. CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, served a Mistress of Ceremonies. She was honored wirh an Outstanding Mother Award in 2007.
According to Essence.com; Janet Jackson, Estelle and Joy Bryant were a few of the celebs who turned out for the Art of Elysium’s second annual “Bright Lights” fundraiser recently. The organization encourages actors, artists and musicians to give their time to children battling serious illnesses.
