According to the Chicago Sun Times, gospel award winning singer BeBe Winans, a close friend and music collaborator with the late Whitney Houston, has written a book about their friendship called “The Whitney I Knew.” The book hits the stores July 31. His next album, “America, America,” which features songs honoring our nation, is out June 19.
On Thursday, June 14, the American Cancer Society, in partnership with raptress/filmmaker Nefertiti A. Strong, hosted the sixth annual Eat, Drink & Be Helpful food, wine & spirits tasting event to raise awareness for stomach cancer and for Strong, who is currently living with stomach cancer. Grammy award-winning artist Macy Gray headlined the music for the evening, which took place at The Irondale Theater, 85 South Oxford Street, Brooklyn, New York.
The opening and closing films for the 16th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) held in Miami Beach, Florida, June 20-23 will be “Beasts of the Southern Wild” on Wednesday, June 20, while “Raising Izzie,” which was the winner of the 2011 gmcFaith and Family Screenplay Competition, will close out the festival on Saturday, June 23.
While we know that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and 50 Cent are BFFs, many people were surprised that 50 accompanied the troubled boxer when Mayweather surrendered to the Clark County Jail in Las Vegas last week. Sources tell me that Mayweather made 50 his Power of Attorney while he serves a three-month sentence for a domestic violence case. I hear 50 was hoping to sign a deal with Manny Pacquiao for Mayweather, but that hope was dashed with Pacquiao’s Saturday night loss to Timothy Bradley.
