The Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn’s Landing re-opens for 18th season

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is proud to continue to present a wintertime tradition in Philadelphia, the 18th anniversary season of the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn’s Landing. It’s time to “Think Rink,” as the Blue Cross RiverRink located on Columbus Boulevard and Market Street, is the perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors and fresh air fun for everyone!

 

Featuring an outdoor Olympic size rink overlooking the Delaware River and an indoor heated facility with a snack bar, game room and more, the Blue Cross RiverRink re-opens officially at noon on Friday, November 25, 2011 with the first skating session of the season. But there will be a special SNEAK PREVIEW event especially for 94.1

 

WIP Listeners on Wednesday November 23, 2011. From 1:00 PM-6:00 PM, WIP will broadcast live from the Blue Cross RiverRink and offer free skating and rental to all their listeners. This will be a special chance to get on the ice before the Blue Cross RiverRink officially opens for the season.

 

WIP is one of the first all-sports formatted stations in the nation and programming for the top-rated outlet can be heard on 94.1FM and 610 AM. The CBS RADIO properties are the leading stations of its kind in Philadelphia and serve as the flagship stations for the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Flyers. The station’s programming is available on-air, online at www.cbsphilly.com and via the Radio.com application for a variety of mobile devices. WIP-FM/AM is owned and operated by CBS RADIO, one of the largest major market radio operators in the United States. A division of CBS Corporation, CBS RADIO operates 130 radio stations, the majority of which are in the nation’s top 50 markets. CBS RADIO also owns and operates WPHT-AM, WOGL-FM and KYW-AM in Philadelphia.

 

Then, on Friday November 25, 2011, to celebrate the start of the 18th anniversary year of Philadelphia’s premier outdoor winter entertainment facility there will be a free concert following the ribbon cutting at noon, featuring Atlantic recording artist and singer of the Top 40 hit singles, “On My Mind,” and “Not Just You” – Cody Simpson.

 

Hosted by Maxwell from Q102, skaters will have the best view of the concert from the ice. Two skaters will be randomly selected for a meet and greet with Cody Simpson following the concert. The Q Crew will be on site until 2PM with games and prizes and there will be free fun photos and photo keepsakes as part of the Opening Day celebration.

 

Regular skating session hours at the Blue Cross RiverRink are Monday to Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Friday hours are: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, 8:30 PM – 10:30 PM, and 11:00 PM – 1:00 AM Saturday hours are: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, 8:30 PM – 10:30 PM, and 11:00 PM – 1:00 AM Sunday hours are: 12:30 – 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM, and 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Special Holiday Hours and other extended sessions are outlined at www.riverrink.com. Skating admission is extremely affordable at $8 and $9 for Friday and Saturday night sessions at 8:30 PM and 11:00 PM and skate rental is available for $3. Convenient parking is also available on site for only $12.

  • New Year’s Eve Parties on Ice, Saturday December 31, 2011 at 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM

  • Blue Cross RiverRink Salute to the Men and Women in Blue, Saturday, January 7 from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM
  • Cabin Fever Reliever, Sunday January 15, 2012 from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM
  • Sweetheart Skate, Tuesday February 14, 2012 from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM

The rink season, which runs until March 4, 2012, also features a live DJ every Friday and Saturday night from 9:00 PM – Midnight. Skating Lessons are available on Sunday mornings from 10:30 AM – Noon. Special Sled Skating Sessions for people with disabilities are available Sunday from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Reservations for these special sessions are required.
