For the second year, students grades K – 8 in the Play on, Philly! (POP) tuition-free after school music program will perform at Please Touch Museum. The theme this year is “Play On, America!”
To ring in the summer season at Please Touch Museum (PTM), Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, 4231 Avenue of the Republic, Sunday, June 8, 1:00PM-2:45PM; 220 Play On, Philly (POP!) music students from St. Francis de Sales School in West Philadelphia and Freire Charter Middle School in Center City will perform American classics including America the Beautiful and The Star Spangled Banner.
Play On, Philly! (POP) seeks to enrich the lives of Philadelphia youth by providing daily tuition-free musical instruction to communities that have little access to music education. In just a few short years POP has grown to serve over 200 children at two schools, providing instrumental instruction as well as choir, general music, chambermusic and orchestra. Students meet every day for up to 3 hours and perform concerts each year in their communities and throughout the Philadelphia area.
They have performed under the Baton of Maestro Yannick Nezet-Sequin of The Philadelphia Orchestra and have had master classes with world-class musicians including Bobby McFerrin and Wynton Marsalis.
