Eagles Youth Partnership (EYP) and the Philadelphia Eagles Football Club will team up with Comegys Elementary School in Southwest Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 30th, 2012, for the 16th annual Eagles Playground Build.

Eagles players, coaches, staff, cheerleaders and Swoop will take the asphalt field and, together with the school community and many generous partners, transform it into a imaginative and welcoming safe haven for children.

Students from Comegys School joined the team in painting colorful exterior and interior murals, inlaying mosaic tiles on benches and tables, constructing a large play structure and planting gardens. A turf field has also been installed to provide the children with an area to play field sports.

Comegys School, home to more than 450 students from kindergarten through 6th grade, was selected as the 2012 Eagles Playground Build school by EYP and the School District of Philadelphia. The murals that will cover the outside of the school will be created by a team of artists, led by David McShane, from the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.

“We build playgrounds because every child deserves a safe and vibrant place to play and learn,” said Eagles Youth Partnership President Christina Weiss Lurie. “It’s a great day for the Eagles to connect with the community and show some of our littlest fans how much they mean to us.”

Playground partners include: The School District of Philadelphia, City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Playworld Systems, Lowell Hartzell Contractor, Sprinturf, Aramark, Dasani, Caramanico, Shriner Tree Care, Tents & Events, National Event Services, Philadelphia DJ and 94WIP.
