BlackVoices.com is reporting that longtime DC radio vet Donnie Simpson, the former host of BET’s “Video Soul,” is preparing for a big return to radio in Washington… and perhaps beyond.

BV Buzz’s Jawn Murray is quoting sources who say Simpson has inked a deal with urban adult contemporary station WHUR in the Nation’s Capital to host its Quiet Storm format, which it pioneered more than three decades ago.

“He’s been itching to be back on radio since his departure from his morning show on WPGC last year,” said a source. “This is a win-win for him and the station.”

The nighttime slow-jam show would reportedly launch in mid-April, according to Black Voices.

The website also reports that Simpson is in talks to take the show nationwide through national syndication, which would put him in competition with Keith Sweat’s Keith Sweat Hotel (Premiere Radio Networks) and Art Laboe Connection through Black Card Radio.

Simpson had hosted the Donnie Simpson Morning Show on WPGC for 18 years before his relationship with station owners CBS Radio soured and he opted to leave. His contract’s non-compete clause, which barred him from taking jobs with other stations in Washington for 13 ½ months, expired last month.
