As a parent and someone who was in need of technology both in my home and on the go, I realized that purchasing laptops, computers, printers, paper, ink, and whatever was necessary to be up and running efficiently would have to occur.

So years ago, I cut out an advertisement for computers at discounted prices from an organization called Team Children. Five months ago, I purchased a desktop computer and a laptop from them.  At the time of purchase, I felt good and knew that both  my child and myself would be up and running technology-wise. I recently sat down with Team Children’s founder, 74-year-old Robert Toporek, to learn more about the organization, its mission and goals.

cj:  What is your vision for Team Children?

RT:  Team Children is committed to making a radical difference in the future of babies and children, no matter what their race is, no matter what their ethnicity is, and no matter where they live, from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the mountain.

cj:  What is the most important thing you want the community to know about Team Children?

RT: That it is imperative for every family, every school, and every organization to have access to a computer and our software.

cj:  Why should we purchase computers from Team Children?

RT: The price of computers has gone up, the economy and price of everything has gone up and the income of low-income people has not gone up. There are people who have kids, and they can’t afford a new computer and they definitely cannot afford all the software that we put onto the computers.  So, our computers are far better than anything that you buy from a store and our computers have access to more programs than you can imagine, and a normal computer does not have that.  Now if you are smart and you know how to use Google, you can find all this stuff on Google, but most people don’t know how to look for those resources, so we put these resources on their desktop.  With a click of a mouse, they can go anywhere, at any time, and as deep as they want to go within their interest and at their [own] pace.

cj:  How can the community help Team Children?

RT: If anyone wants to donate laptops, or volunteer or contribute financially, whatever we can do, we would love for them to do that.  We want to help as many kids as we can, as quickly as possible.

cj:  How much do your computers usually cost?

RT: The average price of a laptop is $150.00.

cj:  What is the make or brand of your computers?

RT: They are various brands:  Dells, HPs, and Lenovos for the most part.

cj:  Do you offer any Apple computers at all?

RT: Very few, we have a little bit, but they are usually older models.

cj:  Where can people purchase your computers?

RT: 960 Rittenhouse Road, Audubon, PA 19403, (484)744-1868

cj:  Do they need an appointment?

RT:  Yes.  Please call me at 484.744.1868 to set up a time for your pickup.

As the 2021-2022 school year for many students has already begun — or is about to begin — almost every one of those students is in need of some form of technology. Team Children is a beneficial resource for those in need of an affordable, fully refurbished computer.  A particular income level is neither an impediment or requirement..

I challenge you to make a difference in a child’s life and make a purchase as a gift, or for yourself and those in your household.  I am a living witness as I am a proud owner of three computers, and still have some change left over after my purchases!
