TruMark Financial held an anniversary celebration on Oct. 29 at its Eastern North Philadelphia location, 1900 N. 5th St., to commemorate its commitment to this underserved community and the more than 1,000 people who have opened accounts since the branch’s 2009 opening. The community had been without a financial institution for more than 60 years.

TruMark Financial Board President Hugh Bray , Steven Kaplan, Pennsylvania Secretary of Banking, and Nilda Ruiz, president and CEO of Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha, Inc. (APM), joined local elected officials in sharing their perspectives on the credit union’s involvement in the community. The highlight of the credit union’s celebration was hearing from community members who shared first-hand how TruMark Financial’s bilingual staff made them feel at ease discussing finances, removing communication barriers which often exist. They also found the engaging and informative seminars made the difference between thriving or just getting by.

TruMark Financial helps member learn the “ABCs” of running a business

TruMark Financial’s educational support helped when Irma Pineda opened Elite Bilingual Academy Day Care Center. She looked to the credit union to answer business-related questions that come up regularly with managing a staff and a business. One of the most important services TruMark Financial provides are educational workshops highlighting issues of interest to consumers and small business owners. “Through these seminars, I have learned the importance of accurate record keeping and maintaining my business account separate from my personal account,” Pineda said.

Pineda also appreciates the credit union’s responsiveness to the community. “The staff is bilingual and Branch Manager Oscar Torrealva has been very supportive. He keeps me informed of upcoming seminars which may help me with my business,” she said.

“We pride ourselves on knowing our members, understanding their needs, and taking a collaborative approach to addressing all of their financial concerns,” Torrealva said.

TruMark Financial leads member on path to dramatically reducing debt

Billboard installer Evaristo Rosario turned to TruMark Financial to better manage his high credit card debt. Within a matter of months after opening a credit card with TruMark Financial, Rosario is already reaping the benefits of much lower interest rates and lower monthly payments. “It’s cutting my bill in half,” Rosario said. “I’ve been saving a lot and have been able to deposit money into a savings account.”

Busy businessman appreciates TruMark Financial’s services and convenience

Franklin Muñoz, Chairman/CEO of accounting firm Muñoz and Associates, keeps busy providing a wide-range of accounting services to Eastern North Philadelphia residents. He’s so busy in fact, he has little time to tend to his banking needs and seek out business seminars. That’s why Muñoz appreciates TruMark Financial’s convenience.

“Services like seven-day-a-week banking, late hours, and free educational and business workshops allow us to run our businesses better without having to complete our banking within the normal Monday through Friday 9-5 window,” Muñoz said. “The TruMark Financial experience is vastly different from the big bank experience and check cashing agencies. When I walk into the TruMark Financial branch, the teller addresses me by name and provides personalized service. If I have questions about my account, representatives are available to offer explanations and help me understand.”
