There are very few African American owned businesses on South Street. And an African American owned hair salon is even less common. But, at 740 South Street is Couture Hair Studio, a full service salon with stylists that focus on all types of hair and styles and serve all ethnicities as well.

Designed to cater to women and to create an environment where women can relax and be pampered, Couture Hair Studio feels like a mini spa. Beautiful floral arrangements and low playing R&B music fill the very stylish space.

“The one thing that has not changed is that women spend money on their hair. I just wanted to create an environment where women can come to relax and be catered to,” said Couture owner Marleen Destinoble.

But despite the fact that women will spend big bucks on their hair, every fashionista loves a deal. The salon offers hair specials everyday like Trendy Thursdays (clients receive 20 percent off color and cut service). But the best deal of the week is by far on Monday’s, when clients receive 50 percent off all services. Couture Hair Studio also validates parking, so you don’t have to worry about the hassle of South Street Parking.

The owners are also trying build relationships with their clients, says Marleen. Couture Hair Studio has begun hosting various “Girls Night Out” themed events. “It’s about offering more than just a service, we want to connect with our clients” she says.

On February 18th, the salon hosted a “Cupcakes and Curls” event with Kendra G of Hot 107.9 Philly. The night included complimentary food and drinks, pole dancing lessons and erotica vendors as well as local hair distributors.

On February 24th, the salon will be hosting a book discussion and mixer with author Kevin Carr (If All Men are Dogs then Women You Hold the Leash,) who will speaking at the Black Love Experience on Saturday Feb. 25th.)

For more information about salon specials, upcoming events or to schedule an appointment, you may call 215-238-1104 or follow the salon on twitter @CouturePhilly.

Don’t forget if you mention the SUN you will receive 50 percent off any hair service at Couture Hair Studio on Monday’s.
