There was a time when hair weaves were thought to be the domain of celebrities who easily could afford them. This particualr beauty enhancement was a well-kept secret. The debate about the viability of hair weaves and hair extensions is ongoing. There are those who believe that weaves don’t have any redeeming qualities and there are those who believe they serve useful benefits.
It appears that later group is winning the argument. Today, women experiment with hair extensions in every, length, color and texture, said Cathy Hicks, a principal of Ultra Hair. “Instead of simply being a means of adding inches and volume to a hair style, hair weaves have become a means of introducing a variety of styles to your beauty repertoire,” said Hicks, who sells 100 percent Indian hair from her internet-based store.
Hicks believes the benefits noted by her clients range from styling considerations to convenience and are listed below:
Prefer Low Maintenance Styling
Maybe you don’t have a lot of time to spend styling your hair and looking for low-maintenance options besides a short cut. Wearing a hair weave will allow you to style your hair in a hurry. Synthetic hair comes pre-styled, so all you really have to do is fluff and go. Human hair weaves offer more versatility than synthetics, but are still generally easy to care for. Weaves are good for active women who covet their time and prefer not to spend countless minutes or hours styling their hair. Hicks held, for special events or vacations, “weaves work well for those seeking low maintenance and less time-consuming hairstyles when time is of the essence.”
Seek Protective Hairstyle
In the case of sewn-in hair weaves, hair is typically braided close to the scalp and extension hair is added in wefts. The extensions hair takes the daily wear-and-tear, so your natural hair is protected from the elements and styling practices. Hicks pointed out that a wearer’s hair will not be forced to suffer the heat from blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons or hot rollers. Additionally, hair will not be affected by harsh weather or cotton pillowcases., she said. “Your hair will be protected from all of those routines and outside influences that can slowly split the ends and dry it out.” And she also added, “It’s one of the protective styles that will shield your hair good with proper care while you wear it.”
Desire Low Commitment
Weaves are designed fundamentally to be worn for a short time. The standard, according to industry stylist, may range from one day to two months. Some hair extensions may be worn longer, with costs and hair texture being major factors. Hicks considers hair weaves to be low commitment options. “If you don’t like the look of your weave style, you can change the style or have it removed,” she said. “You are not stuck with a weave forever, which is a perfect for accommodating change.”
Want a new color? Wonder if natural kinky locks would be flattering? How about trying an ultra-short cut with snipping your long tresses? Hair weaves may help you obtain responses to these questions without compromising your basic hair style.
The endless hair possibilities now provide women the liberty to experiment with color, styling, and types of hair products without worry about damaging their hair, according to Hicks. This can be helpful especially to women who have sensitivities to chemicals. She explained that hair dye can be harsh on Black hair. “Platinum blonde is a particularly harsh shade for Black hair,” Hicks said. “Experimenting with a weave, while your hair stays protected, is a great benefit for those want to explore the expanse of color.”
There is a major experimental benefit for women with natural hair. Hicks opined, “It’s a great advantage for those women who want a straight look without applying heat or chemical relaxers.”
To weave or not weave? The question’s response, in current times, will undoubtedly reflect one of many hair preferences.
