“To weave or not to weave might be a question many women ask themselves?” For those who choose the former and decide to wear a weave, there are advantages and several factors they need to take into consideration.

Hair weaves do more than simply add length. Women who want to experiment or add versatility to their hair can explore different types of hair weaves, according to Yolanda Bailey, owner of The Weave Bar, who said that women opt for weaves for a number of reasons. “Whether you wear one for a special occasion, or to give your hair a rest, hair weaves are just another tool women can use for a different look” said Bailey, who co-owns the salon with her husband Mahari, a practicing attorney.

The benefits, in Bailey’s opinion are many. “With a hair weave, you have instant length and volume. You also benefit from lower maintenance, but maintenance is still a must. ” Weaves, she said, also allow women the opportunity to experiment with colors and different weave textures and styles without risking potential damage to their natural hair.

The Weave Bar, which opened its doors just over one year ago, is an upscale, niche salon specializing in affordable hair weaving. The Signature sew-in-weave is just $50 and one of several available packages. There are two locations in Philadelphia—West Philadelphia and Germantown. Each location is staffed by a highly-trained and licensed staff. The salon offers an array of services with prices below the average rates of other local and national salons to make the experience affordable for all women, while staying true to one of its maxims, “Looking like a million bucks shouldn’t cost you a million bucks.”

To keep costs low, clients have the option of washing and blow drying their hair before arriving, which reduces the service time. They may also bring their own hair products, which contribute to the low cost of the weave, or purchase them in house to avoid a visit to a beauty supply store before their visit.

“We make a concerted effort to provide service within three hours or less” explained Bailey, a graduate of Hampton University. “The process can average between four to 10 hours for extension services.” According to Bailey customers are asked to allow two to three hours for service. Walkins are unscheduled and may take longer, depending upon customer volume. Customers may schedule appointments on line at The Weave Bar, which operates, seven days per week.

Customer comfort is a major consideration at The Weave Bar. Clients can enjoy Wi-Fi, music and complimentary beverage service. The layout of the salon emits an air of sophistication designed to maximize client comfort. Bailey believes the setting speaks to the salon’s professional environment and services.

The Weave Bar also offers a number of customer loyalty programs such as The Weave Bar Rewards, discounted services on clients’ birthdays, special offers, and invitations to customer appreciation and ladies night events. Gift certificates are available.
