Iasia Smith, a New York City-based Master Hair Stylist with more than 11 years dedicated to superior styling and innovation, has recently launched “Dope Hair” – a unique Black hair care line designed for all natural textures, as well as chemically treated locks and hair extensions.
The product line is part of her company — Redd Collection Worldwide — which produces moisture rention-based products complete with natural oils that promote hair growth, repair and shine for men and women.
How she got started
During a recent interview with JET Magazine, Iasia said, “As a beautician, I see a lot of people with bad — split, uneven, and damaged — hair. My brand is for people with different hair textures and it doesn’t matter if you use color or a relaxer. I want regular consumers to be able to purchase good quality products without paying high prices.”
She also attributes a large portion of her success to her ability to stay connected and in touch with her clients needs and desires.
Doing the research
Every successful entrepreneur does their research first before getting started, and that’s exactly what Smith did. “When it comes to research, I checked the market to see what needs consumers expressed as being unmet when it came to managing their hair.” Smith told JET. “I also looked at things like affordability — how could I bring customers more moisturizing products in a line that’s affordable and that they could use at home.”
“I ended up making Argan, Marula and coconut oils the star ingredients in my line because they soften hair and make it more manageable. The beard oil is made with natural sweet almond, peppermint oil, and soybean oil,” Smith added.
Her motivation
“I’ve seen some things I feel are done wrong in this business, and I’ve challenge myself to do better,” Smith said. “I want to create more jobs and guide the younger generation, and help others to start and maintain their own businesses.”
Smith also said that her company will be launching more products very soon.
