Thirty-two-year old Nadira Gilbert describes herself as a time-starved naturalista”. The Philadelphia marketing executive routinely works 12-hour days, crammed with meetings, campaign proposals and industry reports. “I am constantly on the move,” she said. “It comes with the territory.”
But if you are imagining a frazzled workaholic with smudged eyeliner, chipped nails and a hairstyle that defies description, think again.
“Putting my best professional image forward, in my opinion, reflects the standards I set for my industrial proficiency,” Said Gilbert, who wears her shoulder-length hair in natural twists.
Thanks to the recent introduction of services like Tressenoire, an online mobile hair salon service, women like Gilbert are able to keep their natural hair styled and maintained. Tressenoire, staffed by a team of stylist that visit clients in their homes and offices, allows busy women (and men) to integrate their beauty routines into their hectic schedules.
“Women are so busy with their jobs, families and lives that it becomes harder to find a couple of hours to go to your stylist on a day and time that works for you,” explained Regina Gwynn, co-founder of Tressenoire, which allows its clients to book and pay for their appointments and services online.
Tressenoire’s founding was prompted by the desire to connect busy naturalistas with top-tier stylist who would a luxury hair salon experience to their client doorstep (home, office or hotel). Gwynn and her partner Dr. Octavia Pickett-Blakely, both who have been natural for decades, witnessed that getting hair services as a working woman was a chore. “We had to duck out at lunch, rush home before the beauty salon closed or spend hours of our hard-earned free time on a Saturday to get a hair service” noted Gwynn.
Although the focus of Tressenoire is natural hair care, its stylist are experienced in styling a variety of hair types and textures. The stylist, according to Gwynn do not do chemical relaxers, however, they can do shampoo, blow-dry and curl chemically relaxed hair. If you want to transition from chemically relaxed hair to natural hair, Tressenoire stylist can assist.
Gwynn and Pickett-Blakely, a physician at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, are bullish on the company’s prospects. The firm was launched last October in Philadelphia. “The concept is working in a city like Philadelphia because of the abundance of hair salons in the city” said Gwynn, who believes some clients find there is a breakdown in the service provided by these hair salons and braiding shops—both in convenience and quality.
The company’s services and pricing are in keeping with standard salon and braiding studios. “Everything is structured to offer time and convenience which are important factors for most women” noted Gwynn. “So, there is a definite need for a mobile service in order to reach those customers who can’t always make it to a salon,” said Gwynn, who is excited about plans to expand Tressenoire’s, which is operating in Philadelphia and Central New Jersey, to cities across the country. Those cities include West Chester, NY, Baltimore, MD, Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, NC.
So, if you have a busy lifestyle personal, professional and social life and covert your free time, a mobile salon service might be the answer. There is no need to worry and there is no need to rush to a hair appointment. You can have a mobile stylist come to you and recreate the ultimate salon experience in the comfort of your own home.
