TV One features specials of the 2010 Essence Music Festival, Washington Watch and Life After, Aug. 29-30
On Sunday, August 29 at 11 AM, TV One presents a special edition of Washington Watch with Roland Martin that looks at the impact of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans African American Community five years later. Guests include New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu; Wendell Pierce (actor, The Wire, Treme); Sean Payton, coach of the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints and various journalists, educators and business entrepreneurs who discuss the decline of black political power in New Orleans; the state of the education system and Black business; and what residents and others are doing to give back.
On Sunday, August 29 at 9 PM, TV One presents TV One Night Only: Live from The Essence Music Festival a star-studded, two-hour musical extravaganza featuring the best performances from the country's largest celebration of African-American music and culture. This marks the second consecutive year of TV One's partnership with ESSENCE to broadcast the Essence Music Festival (which took place July 2-4, 2010 in New Orleans), and only the third time in its history that ESSENCE has made its Festival performances available for television broadcast.
TV One Night Only: Live From The Essence Music Festival captures exhilarating performances from some of the biggest names in entertainment who performed over the festival's three nights on the main stage including: Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J, Earth, Wind & Fire, Jill Scott, Trey Songz, Gladys Knight and many others. The special also features a collection of short, behind-the-scenes vignettes that will connect these heart-stopping musical performances with intimate, unprecedented celebrity access that chronicles rehearsals and preparations, personal exchanges between the artists – some for the first time, some as old friends reuniting. And, TV One Night Only will take viewers where no other camera is allowed, to deliver the true emotion of the talent backstage.
On Monday, August 30 at 9 PM, TV One presents the season finale of Life After, the network's hit series that explores some of America's most intriguing celebrities and the turning points that have forever changed their lives, be they public or private, triumphant or tragic. Ron Artest – the NBA star will describe the moment he charged into the stands and confronted a fan during the infamous Pacers-Pistons brawl and how it changed his life forever.
Part biography, part confessional and all a celebration of the human spirit, each episode of Life After focuses on a well-known person and tells his or her life-changing story, featuring exclusive interviews with the celebrities themselves, family members, friends, and professional colleagues, as well as rare clips and archival footage.
