NBC 10 Anchor Lori Wilson to give the keynote address at Youth Action’s 4th Annual Charity Gala
NBC 10 News anchor Lori Wilson will give the keynote address at Youth Action's 4th Annual Charity Gala "Living to Serve" on Saturday August 14, 2010. Wilson will be honored for her community outreach and work as a mentor to young journalists. The event will also celebrate the team's development as a non-profit, its several youth-led service projects, the launch and enhancement of its Junior Youth Action program, and the team's volunteerism in the Philadelphia community.
"This year our team managed to improve its infrastructure as a service non-profit and engage in the community activism simultaneously" says Youth Action President Anthony Phillips. "We have increased our membership, structured our Junior Youth Action program, crafted a documentary on sexual abuse among teens, expanded our toy drive, collected clothes for Haiti, given hundreds of volunteer hours to the community, produced a framework for Youth Action's continued growth and more. We are pleased to have Lori Wilson join us for this occasion. She represents the best of what it means to be a role model for youth in our city."
Lori Wilson joined NBC 10 on November 28, 2005, as a general assignment reporter. Since 2006, she has served as the co-host of The 10! Show with Bill Henley. Before joining NBC 10, Wilson worked from 2002 to 2005 as a morning anchor, weekend anchor, entertainment reporter and general assignment reporter at WGCL in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to joining WGCL, Wilson was a news anchor and health reporter at KSLA in Shreveport, Louisiana. Wilson's love for writing and storytelling is what led her to choose a career as a television news broadcaster.
In 1997, while working as an intern at WGCL (formerly WGNX), she landed her first television broadcasting job at WCIA in Champaign, Illinois. A native of Columbus, Indiana, Wilson has a B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Aside from writing, working out and cooking, Wilson enjoys mentoring the next generation of journalists.
Wilson will make her address at Youth Action's Gala which will be held at the Hilton Philadelphia at 4200 City Line Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. The event will kick off at 6 PM on August 14, 2010. Individual ticket cost is a minimal donation of $60. Youth Action is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization, all donations are tax deductible. Proceeds benefit Youth Action's yearly community service projects. Sponsors include First Bank of Delaware, Marian Jones, and the Philadelphia Youth Commission.
