Shiny wheels. Flashy paint. Tricked out trim. There's nothing like the look of a brand new car. But in this economy, not many people have the money to rationalize buying a new car when their current ride only has a few cosmetic issues.

If buying a new car is not an option, it is easy to give your current vehicle that "brand new" look for less than $150 while customizing your wheels, adding personality with paint, reviving your car's interior and replacing your undercoat.

"Now more than ever, people want to be able to fix or improve any cosmetic issues their car may have without the cost of an expensive body shop," says Rust-Oleum brand manager Melissa Grimm. "With the wide array of auto products available, you can have a car that looks brand new without the price tag of a brand new car."

Customize your wheels

Want customized wheels without the custom price tag? It is an easy do-it-yourself project for a Saturday afternoon. For less than $30, you can make your existing wheels look brand new with Rust-Oleum High Performance Wheel spray paint. Try a color like steel to enhance the color of your current plastic hub caps and aluminum or steel wheels. Or, use graphite or black to give them the appearance of their expensive, custom, aftermarket counterparts.

Add personality with paint

Consider customizing your car with spray paint. You could paint your steering wheel, dashboard, cup holders or even license plate frames for a one-of-a-kind textured, metallic look.

Revive the interior

Rain, snow, dirt and daily wear and tear can wreak havoc on car interiors. Why not restore the appearance of vinyl, simulated leather and fabrics, like seats, car door panels, vinyl car tops and floor mats with Rust-Oleum Fabric and Vinyl spray paint? Bring your interior back to life by repainting it the same color or try something unexpected like red, black or blue with a glossy finish.

Don't forget the undercoat

Harsh weather, salt and other chemicals can lead to damage from rust and corrosion that will significantly shorten the life of your car, and cost you a pretty penny to repair. While a professional undercoating can add years to the life of your vehicle, it can be expensive too. But it is easy to do the job yourself with Rust-Oleum Professional Undercoating. The black, rubberized finish creates a protective barrier between the bottom of your car and the elements that prevent rust and corrosion.

It was a pleasant surprise to learn that I'd get to test drive a 2012 Dodge Charger for a couple of days. A muscle car that's large enough to seat five passengers and intimidates anyone who pulls up to the stop light next to me? What could be better than that?

The ongoing question for several years after gas/electric configurations first hit the market place was; why can't auto makers build regular looking cars that also feature Green engine technology. We demand cars that are environmentally friendly, spacious and Green all at the same time.

People who may have at one time bought a Volvo because of its strength and safety features were turned off because they were just so, well--ugly quite frankly. Well not anymore.
