Hosted by Cadillac and the GM Communications team, for the seventeenth year, I attended the Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) on South Beach in Miami June 19-23. The premiere innovators of the automotive industry, Cadillac chauffeured hosted media around South Beach in Escalades, the CTS and also introduced the 2014 ELR, an extended range electric coupe for the entire weekend. Highlights of ABFF included magnificent movie screenings and premieres, a Rising Star panel featuring members of the cast of Baggage Claim including Boris Kodjoe, Terrence J, Derek Luke and writer/producer David Talbert, a Cadillac Conversations dinner with VP for Strategic Development for Cadillac Don Butler, GM Communications’ Jocelyn Allen and Spike Lee. Other celebs that attended ABFF included Regina King, Nia Long, Lisaraye McCoy, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Hart, Omari Hardwick, Wesley Jonathan, Robert Townsend, Fredro Starr, Robert Townsend, Keith David, Salli Richardson and Dondre Whitfield, the list goes on and on... Yours Truly won the Black Movie Trivia Challenge. The closing night film Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain was attended by Lebron James and Dwayne Wade.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes and her husband Gregg tied the knot on June 22 in a lavish ceremony in Atlanta. NeNe dinned a white Gabrielle Aranzo gown. The wedding was held at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel. The bride walked down the aisle escorted by sons Bryson and Brentt as gospel singer Kim Burrell sang “I Believe In You and Me.” The ceremony was officiated by Judge Greg Mathis. Ne Ne refused to repeat For Richer or Poorer, opting only For Richer. Her nine bridesmaids included castmates Cynthia Bailey and Marlo Hampton, and VH1 Baketball Wives stars Laura Govan and Jennifer Williams. Star Jones’ ex-husband, Al Reynolds was one of Gregg’s groomsmen.
In anticipation of the release of White House Down, starring Jamie Foxx, Garcelle Beauvais and Channing Tatum. L.A. Clipper, Matt Barnes and wife, VH1 Basketball Wives star Gloria Govan, hosted a private screening for the film last week. Chicsters who attended the private event included Matt’s teammate Chris Paul and wife, Jada, Laura Govan, actors Quinton Aaron and Omar Gooding and stars of VH1’s Hollywood Exes, Sheree Fletcher and Martin Lawrence’s ex-wife Shamicka Lawrence. The hottest event in Tinseltown was followed by an exclusive party at Rush Street bar where the stars enjoyed a night of cocktails, music and dancing.
Late rapper Tupac Shakur will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He and Tavis Smiley are among the list of stars slated to be honored in 2014. Says Chairman of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee David Green: “We have a great mix of celebrities and industry executives who have made Hollywood what it is today.”
Currently starring on Broadway in “The Trip To Bountiful,” Vanessa Williams attended the opening night for Buyers & Cellars at the Barrow Street Theater in the Big Apple.
