High Street Hymns in concert in Mt. Airy
For one night only, High Street Hymns, an emerging leader in the new hymns movement, will give a concert in Mt. Airy on Sunday, November 4th at 6 PM. High Street Hymns' only Philadelphia area performance in its "Love Lives Again" tour will be held at Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church, 13 East Mt Pleasant Avenue, corner of Mt. High Street Hymns, a worship band with a "folk-rock-soul feel," began as an outgrowth of the music ministry of Anglican College Ministry at the University of Virginia. Founded by singer-songwriter Alex Mejias, High Street Hymns has grown from a local songwriting project to a nationally known worship ministry and band. As a leader in the new hymns movement, the music of High Street Hymns can be heard in churches across the United States every Sunday morning.
By combining ancient Christian hymnody and poems with the sounds of folk, rock and hip hop, High Street Hymns has helped to reclaim the long forgotten songs of the Church, and has brought them into incredibly diverse worship contexts. High Street Hymns sees worship music not simply as an expression of faith, but also a means of spiritual formation and reconciliation. Each album tells the story of brokenness, sacrifice and redemption, and invites the listener into the Gospel narrative.

Kendrah E. Butler & Renewed Mind, an ensemble whose variety of genres of music includes R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Soul, and Pop, will open for High Street Hymns. Kendrah is also a classically trained violinist and has written full classical and jazz inspired orchestrations as well as a variety of jazz and R&B pieces. Kendrah loves to compose music of various genres and enjoys the lyric writing, composition and music production process. Aisha Brooks-Lytle, who has been serving this congregation for the past three years, she is a native of Philadelphia and is an accomplished jazz vocalist in her own right.
