On August 6 in New York City, Spike Lee premiered the latest film in his “Chronicles Of Brooklyn” series, “Red Hook Summer.” Hundreds came out to support the iconic writer/director including Mike Tyson, Gayle King, Laila Ali, Debra Lee, Stephen Hill, Jamie Hector and many more. The cast was all smiles throughout the evening, which ended at a festive after-party at Frank’s Lounge in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. “Red Hook Summer.” tells the story of Flik Royale, a sullen boy from middle-class Atlanta who spends the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch House, in the housing projects of Red Hook. The film opens August 11 in New York City and wider on August 24.
Speaking of movies, “Total Recall,” directed by Len Wiseman, is a Sci-Fi Action Adventure film, set in the futuristic political setting of 2048. Harlem native Bokeem Woodbine plays Harry, the best friend of Doug Quaid, played by the film’s lead, Colin Farrell.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, President Barack Obama is throwing a 51st birthday party at his Chicago home on August 12 that will double as a fundraiser. The 3 PM party at Hizzoner’s digs costs $40,000. Then, at 4:30 PM, folks who coughed up $5,000 can head over to President Obama’s best friend, Mary Nesbitt’s house, for a photo shoot with the Prez. President Obama is scheduled to say a few words in her back yard.
