Journey Hair Salon owned and operated by Tomika Rankin is located in Northeast section of the city. Tomika, who has been doing hair for over 20 years, says that about 90 percent of her clients are natural (no chemicals, including relaxers). Each client gets individualized treatment and Tomika and her staff work with the client to create a hair care plan that will help them obtain healthy and manageable hair.
Since most of Journey's clients are natural, instead of relaxers, most clients use various straightening and strengthening techniques to keep their hair healthy and frizz free without chemicals. One of the most popular techniques is the Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System. This technique is a state of the art amino-acid infused thermal reconditioning system that not only strengthens but straightens, stretches and smoothes frizzy, curly and mulit-textured transitioning and chemically treated hair. Through this technique clients experience increased manageability as well as style versatility and an increase in style longevity. The technique is completely formaldehyde free and is safe and effective for any age.
Miles also says that she likes to focus on education, especially for new clients. "By the time a client comes to me they really just want to grow their hair back. If a client can agree to give me 90 days and to follow my instructions, in most cases breakage stops completely and they begin to see growth", she says. Both she and her staff offer step by step explanations of proper home hair-care including products and styling techniques.
Additionally, Journey Hair Salon offers health and fitness care for clients as well. Clients can purchase vitamins, in addition to various hair products, participate in fitness challenges and even receive monthly newsletters with valuable information about health and fitness as well as salon updates. "We are even like counselors at times, offering a listening ear or advice to clients who just need to vent."
Journey Hair Salon is open from 9 AM to 6 PM on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8 AM-2 PM Saturday. For the months of July and August the salon will be closed on Wednesdays. For more information or to schedule an appointment you can call 215-722-8010 or visit www.journeyhairsalon.com.
