Operation Sleigh Ride delivers holiday meals and warm weather presents to Philadelphia’s homeless
Supplied by presents and meals donated by local supporters, Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House personnel visited Logan Square, City Hall Circle, Broad Street and up and down Market Street from 2nd to 45th Streets delivering warm weather items and hot holiday meals to Philadelphia's homeless population last week.
Led by US Army Ranger combat vet Chris Hill on his motorcycle, a convoy of PVCH staff and volunteers including just-retumed Afghanistan vet US Navy Commander Milan Moncilovich in his dress uniform, spent hours giving presents, meals and talking to the homeless. When the recipients asked who the gifts were from PVCH personnel responded, "Courtesy of veterans of the US Armed Forces."
Founded in 1994, the Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House is a shelter for homeless vets and vets undergoing serious medical treatment at the local VA hospital. Supported by individuals, the VA Medical Center, the veteran's community, unions, businesses, community groups and volunteers, the PVCH provides meals, shelter and support to our nation's military veterans in need.
The PVCH also held a Christmas Day Open House for dozens of the Philadelphia area's homeless vets and their families. The event featured presents under the tree, a holiday meal with all the trimmings and new clothes for local homeless veterans.
