In an effort to help Philadelphians and visiting tourists cool off this summer, Bassetts Ice Cream will again host the annual Ultimate Philadelphia Ice Cream Festival at Reading Terminal Market on Saturday, July 16.
The event will feature ice cream eating contests, tastings, ice cream juggling, ice cream shuffle board, live music, children’s arts and crafts and more.
Now in its fifth year, the festival will take place in Center Court of the Market from 10 AM to 4 PM and will feature frozen desserts from Miller’s Twist, Capogiro Gelato, Franklin Fountain and Uncle Dave’s Homemade Ice Cream at Shady Brook Farm.
This year’s festival will mark the 150th birthday of Bassetts Ice Cream, which will debut its George Washington Sundae at the event – cherry vanilla ice cream with fresh blueberries, walnuts and whipped cream – in conjunction with the new “Discover the Real George Washington” exhibit at the National Constitution Center.
The birthday celebration will commence at 2 PM with three generations of the Bassett family cutting cakes provided by Bredenbeck’s Bakery, Capogiro, Franklin Fountain, Miller’s Twist and Uncle Dave’s Homemade Ice Cream at Shady Brook Farm.
